The Marian Devotional Movement, with the support of the Canadian Catholic Conference of Bishops, spearheaded over 200 Pilgrim Statue events with Our Lady of the Cape, Canada’s National Madonna, to both prepare the way for the Holy Father’s visit and to provide a long awaited opportunity for Mary to visit her children across the country.

As providence would have it, a statue of Our Lady of the Cape was discovered at the First Nations reserve in Alberta at Tsuut’ina Our Lady of Peace Mission Church. This statue was restored by Fr. Frank Sharma in time for the July Papal Mass and was placed on the Ark used for the 1947 Marian Congress flanked by two angels as part of Papal Visit Procession.

October 23rd, 2022 marked a historic step forward in the efforts for reconciliation subsequent to the Holy Father’s recent pilgrimage to Canada based on the theme of Walking Together.

Below is the historic image of Bishop William McGrattan blessing Our Lady of the Cape at her welcome back installation at Tsuut’ina Mission Church. With his excellency is pictured Fr. Frank Sharma, Fr. Christino Bouvette (organizer of the Papal Masses) and Fr. David Meadows, pastor of the Mission Church. The Heart was donated by the Marian Devotional Movement and the Crown by the Queenship of Mary Community.

The Papal Visit Pilgrim Statue Procession from Canada's National Marian Shrine in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, QC to Edmonton can be likened to An Olympic Torch passing through cities — with Our Lady of the Cape bringing Christ's message of healing and reconciliation to everyone on route. She will gather pilgrim's petitions from Cathedrals and churches along the way to rise up as incense at the Papal Holy Mass.
